About

ABOUT CORIN

Ciao! I'm Corin and I'm a public historian, artist, educator and writer.

After earning my Ph.D. in history in 2022, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where I started my business, Pottery by Corin Sweeny Deinhart to live out my passions for creating functional fine art from porcelain clay and making the ceramic arts accessible to people of all ages and skill levels through teaching. I've been practicing the art of pottery intermittently for more than twenty years and it brings me so much joy to now be able to share my art, knowledge, and skills with excited learners and aspiring artists.

Most recently, I have expanded my business and entrepreneurial endeavors to draw upon my international academic background and expertise in public history. In addition to making and teaching pottery, I now offer a range of freelance services, including historical and public historical consulting, research, and writing.

My art and public history approaches are both informed by my international background and training. Guam being my original home served as the springboard for an international life and a love for the art and histories of the greater Pacific. My training in ceramics and history have traversed the Continental US, Hawai'i (where I was trained in ceramics and received a BA in art history, with a focus on Southeast Asian art history), Ireland (where I earned my MPHIL in Public History and Cultural Heritage from Trinity College Dublin) and Italy (where I earned a PhD in contemporary history, with a curriculum in public history from Università degli Studi di Firenze).

When I'm not working on my small creative business, (which is like, 90% of the time), you'll probably find me reading a historical fiction, sipping on wine on my back porch, or playing with my newly adopted rescue kitten, Rumi!
